Boid

Developed by Mokus and tinyBuild, Boid is a real-time strategy video game, available for the Windows operating systems. The game is completely free for playing online, and there is a campaign available for purchase. The campaign teaches the basics and has a great story. Boid tells the tale of Kepler 42-C, a quiet planet with not much happening. A satellite crashes into the surface and kickstarts an evolutionary battle. Fight as microorganisms struggling to gain control of the planet in the campaign mode. Evolve the microorganisms while learning the fate of Kepler 42-C.

In contrast, the free-to-play online play is a free-for-all battle. Take up positions on opposite sides of a map and work to conquer the other player. There's no money, and no way to fortify other than sending more forces into battle. Strategy is the only name of the game in Boid.

Practice on any of the maps with four different difficulties, from beginner to expert. This is a great way for new players to get a grasp of the rock-paper-scissors style combat mechanics.

For example, the original microorganisms evolve in many different ways. Use fast creatures that are weak but move forward swiftly. There are creatures that destroy themselves as well as any enemies in the path. There are even creatures that can take lots of damage while defending positions and keeping the enemy at bay. More types of creatures evolve, and players utilize any combination of them to be successful. There are countless ways for things to play out and no battle will ever be the same because the evolution of microorganisms is tricky and unpredictable.
